Top tips for creating cooler girls' rooms

Posted on

At an early age, a girl's bedroom is one of her sanctuaries. A fantastic bedroom for your child should enhance your child's self-expression. That's why you need to ensure that it's in its optimal form. However, inasmuch as decorating your child's room can be fun, ensure your efforts remain functional. The kids prefer high energy and vibrant rooms as opposed to the calm and understated spaces that parents prefer. These tips could make it easier to create a room that your girls would love.

Utilise colours and bold designs

The walls and ceiling can be a great asset to creating a vibrant and high energy room, since the wall is the biggest area. Involve your child to ensure that you create a personalised touch to the room. For instance, let her choose the colour or design she wants. You could also use a custom printed wall treatment or graffiti wall treatment for an urban style. Another way of keeping the walls and ceiling interesting is by writing her favourite words in neon or light marquis signs. Try using different colours as opposed to letting one colour dominate. Pick curtains, bed and pillow covers with bold prints and unique patterns. In case your child does not prefer paintings, movie or musical posters will do. Go for colours that interest most girls, such as pink, purple, yellow, red and white.

Use pin boards

Pin boards do not use up space, are cheap, are easy to make and better yet, enhance creativity in your child. Nearly every painting, drawing and stickered or glued creation can be pinned on the board. For a better effect, paint the frames to blend in with the theme of the room. You can fix the frames on the walls by screwing them as opposed to using glue. Gluing the boards creates a mess and gets rid of the paint during their removal. You can also fix them at different places in the room to create uniformity.

Utilise Space

The bedroom is the place where your teenage girl will spend most of her time. It's the place she will feel comfortable spending time with her friends and practicing dance moves and vocals. Make the room appear wider by adding a long open shelf or wardrobe that can also solve the issue of storage. They will store garments and act as a display for your child's collections. Storage space is very important to teenage girls. They tend to have many things that they value.

Create zones in the room such as a study area. You can use different colours to achieve this. For example, the study area can be dominated by bold colours while the resting area is marked by calm tones such as pale blue or soft pink. You can also add a mirror to make the room look bigger.
